THE 18th MERIMBULA BROADBILL TOURNAMENT

SOUTHERN ZONE

18th – 19th – 20th JUNE & 25th – 26th – 27th JUNE 2010


The President and Committee extend an invitation to all Financial Members affiliated to NSWGFA, GFAA and ANSA clubs to compete in the 18th Merimbula Broadbill Swordfish Game Fishing Tournament.

We have opened this event to all clubs in the Southern Zone, enabling you to fish out of your home ports and spread over two weekends.  Dates are 18th – 19th – 20th June &-25th –26th –27th June 2010.


TOURNAMENT RULES

1.    VENUE

Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club (MBGLAC) clubhouse situated in Spencer Park will be the hub of all fishing activities throughout the Tournament.  All boats must leave and return to Merimbula Port but boats from other Southern Zone Clubs may fish from and return to their home ports.

2.    TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE

Robert Wood, Angus Chirnside, David Williams and Shannon Stokes.

 

3.    ENTRY FEES

All anglers competing in the Tournament must be financial members of a club and affiliated with the Game Fishing Association of Australia (GFAA), NSWGFA, or ANSA.

Adult anglers and Junior anglers fishing for ALL trophies     - $50.00

Juniors anglers fishing for Junior trophies ONLY         - $35.00

 

4.    TEAMS

Each team shall consist of a minimum of THREE (3) registered anglers with no maximum.  However, all crewmembers of vessels competing in this tournament must be registered anglers in the tournament.  No other person to be allowed on boats during the tournament.

 

5.    BOUNDARIES

Competing boats may fish out of their home ports but must abide by the designated fishing boundaries of that port.  For those boats fishing out of Merimbula, our fishing boundaries are due east of Goalen Head to the north and due east of the southern end of Disaster Bay to the South

 

6.    FISHING TIMES

Fishing times will commence at 12noon on Friday and cease at 7.00am on Monday.  Fishing and Burleying are restricted to within these times.  To be eligible for trophy awards all fish Capture Certificates and Tag Cards must be in the hands of the Weigh Master of the respective club by 10.00am on the day of capture.

 

7.    WEIGHSTATION PROCEDURE

All fish are to be weighed at the appropriate weigh station and all weigh masters from each club entered in the tournament are responsible for emailing the details to Merimbula Big Game & Lakes Angling Club on the day of capture or tag and release.  Email address – This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Contact Rob Wood.  Fish may be weighed at Merimbula between the hours of 8.00am and 10.00am.each day, although these times may be changed, depending on prevailing circumstances.  Notification of changes will be by radio.  Completed capture certificates and tag cards must be accurately completed prior to fish being presented at weigh station.  Both the time and line class must be listed on all tag cards or the fish will be deemed to be tagged at end of fishing and on 60kg line. All tackle used must be presented for inspection for both capture and tag and release.

 

8.    LINE CLASSES

Eligible line classes for this tournament include 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, 24, 37, and 60Kg.

 

9.    POINT SCORING

As per NSWGFA point score and minimum weights will apply.

 

10.    RULES

GFAA & NSWGFA Rules for capture and tag and release will apply and include the additional new rules.  Minimum number of anglers on each boat shall be three (3) registered in the Tournament.

1)    No points will be awarded for shark captures on 4kg line class.

2)    The use of identifiable marlin carcass is prohibited for use as tethered burley.  Burley secured under floats is prohibited.

3)    NSWGFA Anglers must use the Billfish Tag to tag all Billfish species.  This is the only Tag that will be recognized for Billfish in any tournament, competition and point score trophy.  The billfish tag is for billfish only point score (no other species).

4)    “Circle” hooks only are permitted to be used for live baiting with the exception of narrow Barred Mackerel.  NB no points to be scored for any other species caught using live baits with “J” hooks.

 

11.    RADIO

Radio Skeds will be conducted under NSWGFA Guildelines for Radio Skeds as are in effect at the time.  All boats must be equipped with 27.88mhz and 27.94mhz.  Radio skeds will be conducted on 27.94mhz and will be every two (2) hours, at five (5) minutes past the hour commencing at 4.05pm.  NSWGFA Guidelines recommend that radio skeds be conducted on 2 of the 3 frequencies available, i.e. 27mHz, VHF, High Frequency.  Advice on this will be given at the briefing.

Boats leaving Merimbula are asked to log on with Merimbula Coastal Patrol on 27.88, and then log on with Tournament Base prior to commencing fishing.  At the completion of fishing, boats must log off with Tournament Base and the Coastal Patrol.  Boats failing this requirement, or who fail to answer their skeds, will be disqualified.  Tournament Base will be on 27.94mhz throughout the entire Tournament.  Merimbula has a dedicated sked boat fishing the tournament and all skeds are radioed to this vessel.  Southern Zone clubs not fishing in Merimbula waters must radio on to their appropriate tournament base and coast patrol.  .  All captures must be reported accurately to Tournament Base at the time of boating fish and anglers name, species of fish, line class and approximate accurate weight must be given.  All tag and releases must be reported to Tournament Base at the time of release and anglers name and species must be given.  The triple zero system will apply for reporting captures and tag and release.

In the event of communication difficulties, skippers are to use all available means to maintain contact with Tournament Base.  The skipper of any boat suffering radio failure must make contact with another boat and have them advise Tournament Base.  THEY MUST THEN RETURN TO PORT IMMEDIATELY.  Boats having radio problems must check their radios with Tournament Base prior to next leaving port.

 

12.    GALE WARNING

In the event of a “Gale Warning” the tournament will be cancelled for that day, or days, for all areas in the Southern Zone, which are subject to the “Gale Warning”.  All vessels so effected are required to cease fishing and return to port.

 

13.    CANCELLATION OF TOURNAMENT

In the event of the Tournament being cancelled in part or whole, only fish captured or tagged prior to cancellation will be eligible for the tournament.

 

14.    SEAWORTHINESS OF BOATS

The seaworthiness of boats is the responsibility of boat skippers and crews.  SAFETY is of prime importance and we ask you not to take any risks.  Boats putting to sea do so at their own risk.  All boats must be equipped to the required MSB SAFETY STANDARDS. The Merimbula Big Game & Lakes Angling Club Inc. will not be responsible for any accident and/or injury incurred during the entire tournament.

 

15.    INSURANCE

All competing vessels must be comprehensively insured and carry Public Liability Insurance.  Details must be completed on Entry Forms.  Failure to provide this information will result in exclusion from the Tournament.

 

16.CARCASSES & FISH HANDLING

All fish should be removed from the weigh station after weighing.  Competitors must not clean or fillet fish or remove shark jaws in the vicinity of the weigh station, nor at any time near any beaches or harbour foreshore area.  Carcasses must be taken at least 2km to sea and disposed of in an appropriate manner.  No fish to be disposed of within NSW Marine Park.  The Committee advises that most fish are edible, and if kept in good condition, will be gratefully accepted by the community.  It is illegal in NSW for recreational anglers to sell fish or give them to professional fishermen.

 

17. PROTESTS

Any protests, signed by the team captain, must be emailed to the Tournament Committee by 10am on each particular day of the Tournament.

 

 

18. BRIEFING & LATE REGISTRATIONS

Late entries will be received by the Secretary no later than Thursday 17th June at 7.00pm.

The briefing and reading of the tournament rules will be held at the Merimbula BG & LAC Clubrooms, Spencer Park on Thursday 17th June 2010 at 7.00 pm and at each Southern Zone Club competing in the tournament.  All competitors are requested to attend.  There will be a further briefing at the respective Clubrooms on Thursday 24th June 2010, for those vessels which did not register and fish in the first week of the tournament.  Such late entries must be registered by Thursday 24th June at 7.00pm.

 

19. MOORINGS

Skippers requiring moorings are asked to advise when submitting their entry and everything possible will be done to accommodate although there are no guarantees

 

20. FUEL

Traveling boats are asked to advise of their fuel requirements when submitting their entry forms.

 

21. TROPHY PRESENTATION

A Presentation will be held one week after the Tournament at the MBG&LAC Clubhouse, Spencer Park, Merimbula.  Further details to be advised.
