I am told that Prue McMahon has been sent home from Westmead hospital which is great news and must be a relief for Gail and Don. Robert Wood’s wife, Sandra has been very sick in Canberra  hospital for a few weeks now and I am sure you will join me in wishing her a complete and speedy recovery. I saw her again this week and she is really looking forward to getting home very soon.

NSW had a couple of wins at the GFAA AGM of which your club has been notified pertaining to “measure and release” for juniors and small fry. The list will no doubt be extended but at the moment it is for Yellowtail Kingfish under 70cm so that is a start! This is effective immediately and will be scored the same as striped tuna and kawa kawa.

It was also terrific to pick up two GFAA trophies for Southern Zone members …. John Rankin (Eden) and Rhiannon Halling (Shellharbour).  These are most prestigious and congratulations to both on this achievement.

Now that the Mako is back for us there have been quite a few captures from both Shellharbour and Shoalhaven which is good to see. Otherwise, it seems pretty quiet but things will no doubt hot up pretty soon.

It has been reported that there are still photos of sharks in particular that are being given to local newspapers.  This is against NSWGFA media policy and must be stopped.

Next month sees the Shoalhaven Light Tackle and the Jervis Bay White Sands tournaments so I hope you show these clubs some support.

When checking through the paperwork I found a couple of glitches so the points  are now correct and up to date. I am surprised that only one person picked up on it but there you go! Batemans Bay got off to an early start but other clubs are now in the running

The NSWGFA Junior Team will again be fishing the Canberra GFC Yellowfin Tournament in May 2011.  Please send me your nominated juniors with a brief resume and parental permission and we will go from there. The last couple of years we have been lucky to get two of our SZ juniors on board but I think it will be back to one this year.  Anyway, it is a fantastic experience for them with GFAA President Grahame Williams as their chaperone and mentor. They will be fishing on “Aspro” which is being chartered for them. All accommodation is booked at Bermagui for them so it is just the parents responsibility to get them there on the 13th for the briefing and pick them up after the event.

Although there is no Full Council Meeting in November I am calling the traditional  Zonal meeting on Friday 19 November 2010.  We have to determine what we are doing with our Interclub Tournament and just catch up on what is happening in NSWGFA and GFAA.  Hopefully we will have representatives from all the clubs. Kim will give you an update on what is happening with the trophy cabinet . There will also be some discussion on braid line and the NSWGFA media policy.  If you have anything you would like put on the agenda please let me know.

Hope to see you at the meeting. Stay safe and enjoy your fishing!

Sanchia
